Year 1

Wind can be an important element in landscape design, with unlimited potential, however it is uncontrollable and arbitrary. This research project focuses on the wind climate of its site, a mine and its surrounding area in Wales. From the perspective of wind and the cyclist, the project’s main stakeholder, the design studies the influence and function of wind on different subjects and links it to the site. The project starts from three aspects: economy, ecology, and human engagement. Through the construction of green belts, the design aims to enrich people's experience while also improving the use rate of wind turbines and repair the soil condition.

The design ultimately increases connectivity across the site and improves user comfort and participation. This is achieved while restoring the ecology of the site, creating a harmonious relationship between the man-made natural landscape and the natural landscape. Wind is allowed to play a greater role as a crucial part of the design.
